About Us

History

In 1997 the Ministry of Community and Social Services introduced a policy directive called "Making Services Work for People." This policy challenged communities to come up with solutions to make the service delivery system more responsive to the needs of individuals. Community consultation revealed that many people found the social service system hard to navigate. People said:

  • the system was confusing and fragmented
  • they couldn't get the services they needed
  • they didn't know who to call

  • they had to tell their stories over and over again.

Contact Hamilton was established in 1999 to make it easier for people to get information and link with the services they need.

Contact Hamilton opened its doors on June 1, 2000, and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.

Funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS) and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS), Contact Hamilton was established to make the job of finding the appropriate services for children with behavioral, emotional and developmental needs and developmental services for adults a lot easier.
